Viltrox has introduced the AF 35mm f/1.4 Pro, completing its trio of f/1.4 Pro lenses for Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.

Specifications and Build

The lens includes 16 glass elements arranged across 11 groups, promising edge-to-edge sharpness and clean image quality. Viltrox notes that the lens includes a pair of Ultra-Precision Aspherical (UA) elements to reduce “onion-ring” bokeh; three ED elements to correct for axial chromatic aberration and reduce color fringing; and four HR elements to ensure good optical quality without using big, heavy glass elements. An eleven-blade diaphragm rounds out the aperture design, helping to produce a pleasing out-of-focus quality.

Weather-sealed construction features a scratch- and wear-resistant matte black finish and rubber gaskets that guard against dust and moisture. The E-mount version weighs 760 g and measures 111 mm, while the Z-mount model is 780 g and 112.5 mm long. Both accept 77 mm filters, allowing users to share accessories across mounts.

Performance and Compatibility

Viltrox’s HyperVCM Fast Focus system provides autofocus, and the design limits focus breathing, which benefits video shooters. Minimum focusing distance is 0.3 m, yielding a maximum magnification of 0.18×, matching Nikon’s Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.4 and Sony’s FE 35mm f/1.4 GM.

While the unit is heavier than its first-party rivals, its solid build and consistent optical formula make it attractive for outdoor scenery, travel, and street work where the wider focal length shines.

Pricing and Market Position

Retail pricing starts at $829, with a direct-purchase discount lowering the cost to $663. By comparison, Nikon’s competing 35mm f/1.4 sells for about $576 after a discount, while Sony’s G Master version lists at $1,498.

The full set costs under $2,000, and the 35mm model is available now from the brand’s online store.
