Thypoch Launches Affordable, Lightweight AF 23mm Lens

Published on 27/10/2026 • By Tia Nurjanah

Thypoch has launched its first autofocus prime lens, the $349 AF 23mm f/1.4 Sculptor for Fujifilm X mount. This lens, with a 35mm equivalent focal length, is versatile for various photography genres, including street, environments, portraits, and travel. The 35mm focal length is a classic choice, offering a natural perspective that suits a wide range of applications.

A Shift in Thypoch’s Design Philosophy

Known for its manual focus lenses like the Simera 50mm f/1.4 and Ksana 21mm f/3.5, Thypoch ventured into autofocus territory with the Voyager 24-50mm f/2.8 for Sony E-mount. The Sculptor follows a similar design aesthetic, featuring diagonal lines and a vintage-modern look. This shift reflects Thypoch’s evolution from classically-inspired designs to more contemporary, user-friendly options, blending style with functionality.

The lens’s appeal goes beyond its appearance. It boasts 12 lens elements in 10 groups, ensuring sharpness across the frame, even at its widest aperture. A 10-bladed aperture diaphragm further enhances its capabilities, contributing to smooth bokeh and excellent low-light performance.

Compact and Lightweight

Measuring just 71.4mm (2.8 inches) in length and weighing 283 grams (just under 10 ounces), the Sculptor is remarkably compact. It offers a minimum focus distance of 0.25 meters (0.82 feet), providing a 0.13x magnification—not macro, but useful for close-ups. Its 52mm front filter thread adds to its versatility, accommodating various filters for creative photography.

Compared to competitors like Fujifilm’s XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR ($1,049, 375 grams, 77.8mm long) and Sigma’s 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary ($609, 340 grams, 76.9mm long), the Sculptor stands out for its affordability and lightweight design. Even the manual-focus TTArtisan 23mm f/1.4 ($113.99, 230 grams, 40.5mm long) can’t match its autofocus capabilities, making the Sculptor a unique blend of portability and performance.

A Turning Point for Fujifilm Users

Its combination of affordability, lightweight design, and autofocus functionality is likely to make it a popular choice among Fujifilm X-mount camera owners. As the most affordable and lightest autofocus-equipped 23mm f/1.4 prime lens for this system, it addresses a significant gap in the market.
