Viltrox has launched four new full-frame prime lenses in its Air L series, designed specifically for cameras with L-Mount bayonets. The lineup, announced on September 22 in Shenzhen, includes the AF 14mm F4.0 Air L, AF 20mm F2.8 Air L, AF 40mm F2.5 Air L, and AF 50mm F2.0 Air L, each combining autofocus capability with compact, lightweight construction to expand options for L-Mount users.

The Four New Air L Prime Lenses

The AF 14mm F4.0 Air L offers a 112.6-degree field of view, making it the widest in the series. It targets environment, architectural, and interior photography, as well as vlogging and group shots. Its close focusing distance of 13 centimeters allows photographers to emphasize foreground subjects while capturing expansive backgrounds. The lens weighs 172 grams and measures 65.1 x 54.4 millimeters, featuring 12 elements in nine groups, including four ED, two HR, and two aspherical elements. The 58mm filter thread supports standard accessories.

The AF 20mm F2.8 Air L provides a more moderate ultra-wide perspective, suitable for travel, street, and architectural photography. It balances environmental context with subject prominence, making it ideal for documentary-style work and vlogging. The lens focuses as close as 19 centimeters, offering 0.17x magnification. At 159 grams and 64 x 52.3 millimeters, it is the lightest in the set. Its optical design includes 10 elements in eight groups with two ED, one HR, and two aspherical elements, mounted on a 52mm filter thread.

The AF 40mm F2.5 Air L sits between wide-angle and normal focal lengths, positioned for street, travel, still life, and environmental portraiture. It emphasizes the subject while retaining contextual background, with a 34-centimeter minimum focus distance and 0.14x magnification. Weighing 169 grams and measuring 64 x 52.5 millimeters, it contains 10 elements in six groups, including one ED, three HR, and one aspherical element. The 52mm filter thread accommodates common filters.

The AF 50mm F2.0 Air L, the longest and brightest lens in the series, features a f/2.0 aperture for low-light performance and shallow depth of field control. This makes it particularly effective for portraits and everyday subjects. Its 51-centimeter close focus distance yields 0.11x magnification. The heaviest at 205 grams, it measures 65.1 x 54.4 millimeters and uses 13 elements in nine groups, including three ED, four HR, and one aspherical element. The 58mm filter thread matches the 14mm model.

Autofocus, Video, and Build Details

All four lenses use STM stepper motors for fast and accurate autofocus during both photo and video capture, with compatibility for eye and face detection on supported cameras. Viltrox has reduced focus breathing to minimize framing shifts during focus transitions, a key feature for videographers. The uniform physical design eases transitions on gimbals, as the system requires less rebalancing. Each lens features a metal bayonet mount and front elements coated with water- and dust-repellent treatment.

Priced at €229 for the AF 14mm F4.0 Air L, €189 for the AF 20mm F2.8 Air L, €189 for the AF 40mm F2.5 Air L, and €229 for the AF 50mm F2.0 Air L, the lenses support in-camera corrections via the L-Mount system. Firmware updates can be applied through Viltrox’s desktop client or directly on compatible cameras using a memory card. The lineup spans from ultra-wide to classic normal focal lengths, addressing diverse photographic needs within the L-Mount ecosystem.

L-Mount Compatibility and In-Camera Corrections

The four Viltrox Air L lenses are compatible with all cameras featuring an L-Mount bayonet, including models from Leica and Panasonic. This ensures seamless integration across the system’s full-frame mirrorless lineup. The lenses support in-camera corrections, allowing the camera to automatically compensate for distortion, vignetting, and chromatic aberrations during image processing.

Firmware Updates and System Integration

This dual approach offers flexibility for photographers who prefer updating on a computer or in the field.
